ALL four of Queensland's LNP Senators are up for re-election – and they didn't waste any time warning Dawson voters against supporting the Greens when visiting the region yesterday.
Senate candidates Barnaby Joyce, George Brandis, Brett Mason and Russell Trood toured Mackay to support Dawson candidate George Christensen in his campaign and urge the electorate against voting in a “Labor-Green” government.
“If you end up with a Labor-Green government... you vote to put yourself out of a job,” Senator Joyce said.
“You are supporting a party that doesn't believe in coal mining; and, so help me, what's going to be left of Mackay if you don't have coal mining?”
The Greens are expected to gain the balance of power in the Senate. Senator Brandis said Labor had done a “secret” deal with the Greens to give control of the Senate to “Green radicals” and that Dawson people should be very concerned.
He said the ALP should come clean on any promises to the Greens regarding a carbon tax and lifting the mining tax.
The senators and Cr Christensen also visited small businesses in Mackay's CBD yesterday and attended a LNP dinner.
